Hello Sweet Cheer: Global Missions

Global Missions

So I’ve missed a few weeks of blogging but I’ve still had a lot of things swirling around in my head just ready to be written down! I’m just finally making the time to sit down and write.
Over the past month or two, the Lord has been igniting my heart for global missions. I’ve been on four mission trips beginning my freshman year of high school and I’ve always enjoyed them. God has always taught me things, opened my eyes to His truths, and allowed me to love on His people. As I’ve gone out to Juarez, Mexico and to the nation of Haiti, I’ve always known the importance of missions. I’ve always understood the call to “make disciples of all nations” (Mt. 28:16-20) and the compassion Jesus had for the masses (Mark 6:34). Bu this fire in my heart is different. God is beginning a work in me to transform my heart into a heart of compassion, love and desire to live a missional lifestyle. I’m not quite sure how that will play out in the years to come, but I KNOW I need to serve, and I need to serve globally. That could mean short-term missions, long-term missions, maybe even picking up and moving my life to another country. I know the Lord has a plan and I’m prepared to patiently wait on His voice.
I just want to outline God’s heartbeat for missions. There are quite a few bible verses that reveal His compassion for all nations but I’ll just list a few. The following verses mention “all nations”, “all people”, “ends of the earth” etc.
Genesis 12:1-3
Psalm 67:1-5
Psalm 96:1-3
Isaiah 49:6
Throughout these four verses the theme is that God had compassion for ALL nations.
Here are three key elements of God’s missional heartbeat:
The Great Commission – Matthew 28:16-20 Makes disciples of all nations by going to them, winning and baptizing them, and teaching them to obey all He has commanded.
The Great Commandments – Matthew 22:33-40 Teach us to love God and our neighbor. Love God; obey His commands and strive to see the whole world worship Him. Love neighbors; we will want them to have eternal life.
The Great Compassion – Mark 6:34, Luke 19:10 Jesus had compassion for crowds who were like sheep without a shepherd; came to seek and save who were lost.
So there you have it, the biblical foundation for global missions. I hope this is something worth reading. My heart desires to serve through global missions and my prayer is that yours would too, regardless of the capacity in which you serve.
Peace & blessings!
