Hello Sweet Cheer: 2013

2013

A New Year, A New Beginning

It’s hard to believe 2012 has come & gone, and we’re on to the year 2013!  This is the year I become a senior in college, the year I’ll turn 21, the year my parents have been married 29 years, the year my sisters will celebrate their 1st & 2nd anniversaries with their husbands, & the year my little sister becomes a senior in high school.  This is crazy talk!

I’m excited about what will come in this year.  My heart is prepared to see change.  This Spring Break will be the first in 6 years that I won’t be on some sort of mission trip.  My plans are up in the air at this point.  This May I’ll move out of my rental house & live at home in McKinney for the summer.  In August I’ll move into a new rental house with new roommates (and I’ll be a senior)!  This fall will be my last football season as a student.  In December I’ll experience my last Christmas break as a college student (having 5 weeks off has been nice).  I love change in small doses but sometimes drastic change is hard to swallow.  I’ve been learning about change & how to deal with it all semester & it seems I’ll be applying all that I’ve learned for the next year!

Enough about me, let’s talk about Jesus.  While we are all in a mindset of reflection on the past year & preparation for the year to come, I find it imperative to think about what the Lord would have to say.  As I was reading over the past few days of Jesus Calling this morning (I’ll admit, I haven’t been good about keeping up with it lately), a few things stuck out to me.  Side note: Jesus Calling is a daily devotional book with quick tidbits written from the perspective of God, followed by scriptures to support them.  I highly recommend it, & you can find it any Christian bookstore!

From January 1st: “Come to me with a teachable spirit, eager to be changed.  A close walk with me is a life of continual newness.”  Romans 12:2

On the first day of the year we’re often in the mindset that since it’s a new year we get to start over, or begin anew.  But I love the contrary that this teaches.  When I read this today, I was immediately reminded of my sweet friend Heather Huante.  She also writes a blog, you can check it out here.  Anyway, I came across her Facebook status yesterday & really loved what she had to say.  She’s always celebrating Jesus, oozing with Joy, & pointing everyone back to the cross.  I love her dearly for that.  Here’s what it said: “I think it's really cool that the "Oh yay, a new year! Today is the day I start over" feeling everyone is experiencing today is the same feeling that is offered to us every time we ask for forgiveness.  This feeling of a clean slate is a gift that is offered to us anytime we want it.   The Lord's grace y'all, [it’s] pretty mind blowing stuff!”  Isn’t she wonderful!?  Really, check out her blog, follow her on twitter (@HeatherHuante), do whatever you can because I promise you’ll want to hear what she has to say!

Back to the topic at hand… It’s incredible to think about & understand the fact that we get to start new at any moment when we have Christ in our lives.  I feel like I start over daily, almost!  I’m always asking for forgiveness, strength to repent & attempting to move towards a life that looks more like Jesus.  If Christ didn’t offer a clean slate with forgiveness, sanctification wouldn’t be possible!  What a wonderful feeling it is to know that you are forgiven, to know your debt is paid, to know that even in your failures, the Lord loves you & wants you reconciled back to Him, every. day.  That’s our God, people!!!

Here are a few more things I read today that jumped out at me, & I thought necessary to share!

From January 2nd: “Relax in my Healing Presence.  Bring your mind back to Me for refreshment & renewal.”  Psalm 105:4, Luke 10:39-42

From December 31st: “I, your Prince of Peace, long to pour Myself into Your neediness.  My abundance & Your emptiness are a perfect match.  I designed you to have no sufficiency of your own.”  Isaiah 9:6, 2 Cor. 4:7, John 14:26-27

Here are some pictures of the past few days at the Moorman house!  Happy New Year to you & yours!

Creepin' on my sisters while they played Just Dance :)

As always, thanks for reading my friendlies!  Your support doesn’t go unnoticed & I am eternally grateful for it!!

What are you looking forward to in 2013?  How is God revealing Himself to you?
