Hello Sweet Cheer: May 2013

Insta Friday

Happy Friday!

My Maymester is almost over!  I have one more class day and then the final!  Woohoooo!

Made some yummy waffles for my family Saturday morning!

Then I made this dessert on Monday...just for fun! They
are called Sopapilla Cheesecake Bars and they're wonderful!

Early mornings for class lately.

Throwback Thursday!  Mexico Mission
Trips with WUMC McKinney.

My sweet friends Matt and Ama Martinez are in town tonight!  I'm so excited!  They got in this afternoon and we got to visit for about an hour before they had to get ready.  They're here for a wedding that's happening in the Dallas area tomorrow so they're at the rehearsal dinner tonight!  When they get back tonight we plan to go see a movie!  These two are some of my dearest friends.  I love them like crazy and it's so good to see them.

I go way back with these people.  And by way back I mean three years.  Hehe.  They're so special to me.  Hope you have big, fun plans for the weekend!  Happy JUNE!  I can't believe it.

Summer is in full swing...

Happy Tuesday, friends!!!

It's May 28th, the day after Memorial Day which means summer is officially underway!  I've been finished with school for weeks now but there's just something about Memorial Day that really kicks off the summer season.  I am thoroughly enjoying my time at home and couldn't be more thankful to be served a hot meal every night!  I've been spending lots of time with my wonderful parents and a bit of time with my baby sister (she's still in school until next week).  I'm taking a maymester statistics class right now so my mornings have been occupied, but it leaves me with the rest of the day to do what I please!

Since I've been home I saw Kenny Chesney in concert with my best friend! Along with Eli Young Band and Eric Church.

We had a blast and the music was superb!  Not to mention I'm going to the Darius Rucker concert in a few weeeeeks! Eeeeee!

We spent a wonderful day honoring my sweet momma!  She was thoroughly pleased with all the gifts she received!

Other than that I've been doing my class, going to doctor appointments, and getting into the groove of living at home again.  Which has been wonderful but definitely a transition!

With summer officially here…I want to address laziness.  Why?  Well, I'm the worst about being lazy.  I need a little reminder of why I shouldn't be and some motivation to be productive.  Now that it's summer, in my mind all responsibility goes out the window…*enter laziness*  I know that the Lord is calling me to live righteously and boldly for Him everyday, so it's absurd that I get so stagnant sometimes.  I also know I'm not the only one who takes the summer "off" when it comes to the most important relationship…a relationship with Jesus!  Hopefully I can shed some light on the situation and offer a bit of advice!

I am all for rest and relaxation, don't get me wrong!  But there's a way to relax while still bringing glory to God and doing something with your time to further the kingdom.  Over the past few weeks while I've been getting into the groove of being finished with the Spring semester I've observed how I've been lazy and what helps me to curb that laziness.

1) Utilize the morning
For starters, it's important to get up by 9am.  It's summer, and if you don't have class or work, it's totally acceptable not to be waking up by 7am.  Past 9:00 though, I find that I wake up groggy and I've wasted a good portion of my morning.

2) Prayer and study FIRST
Before turning on the TV, before leaving for work or class, before starting in on Facebook for the day, before reading the newspaper… read the Bible!  Get into the Word.  Pick a book or a group of books to work through and make that a priority.  If you don't have an hour to spend in scripture before getting out the door, try to spend at least 10-15 minutes in prayer.

3) Limit mindless entertainment
Do your best to put a time limit on the amount of things you pass the day with.  In the summer it's easy to get caught up in your favorite TV shows, spending hours on Facebook, twitter, YouTube, etc.  It's important to place a limit on these things and vow to make productive use of your time outside of them!

Well that's about all I have on laziness.  These are some REALLY simple things that can quickly turn your summer from lacking in motivation to making disciples!  It's not these specific actions that are going to make disciples though, obviously.  I believe these things will grow and nurture your relationship with Jesus, which by nature causes your heart to desire to spread His kingdom more!!

Hope you had a GREAT memorial day weekend!

Transformation, a Walk Down Memory Lane & a Little Insta Friday

I started writing this post about a week and a half ago.  I left it in my drafts and vowed to return to it later.  Then I missed Insta Friday last week because I was moving home, and now I'm finally feeling a blog coming on.  Sometimes it just works that way.  So here are the last three years of my life in pictures, and 2 weeks worth of Instagram!

I am officially two semesters away from graduating and becoming a big girl.  Wow, that's scary.  In honor of the new social media fad that is "Transformation Tuesday/Throwback Thursday/Flashback Friday"…let's take a stroll down memory lane…..

Here I am three years ago, on graduation day.

Ready to start a new chapter of my life, but definitely sad to leave home.

My high school bestie, Lauren!  Friends for life, that's for sure.

Another high school bestie, Haley!  Love her.

The morning I drove to Lubbock.  Left McKinney at 5am to get to
Lubbock in time to check in for Foundation camp.

So many fun memories of that week!
Here I am after camp, meeting back up with my parents.

And freshman year began…moving into my dorm
room at 403A Hulen Hall.

One of the first fun things I did in college.  BYX Barn dance.  That's my freshman year
roomie, Megan!  We're still good friends!  And another friend I
met as a freshman, Amanda.  We spent so much time together!  Love her dearly.

My two best friends from my Foundation small group!
The three of us were inseparable our first semester at Tech.

Fall 2010 was my first Wesley retreat!

In the spring I got really close with these people...

And sophomore year came sooner than I thought it would!

I moved into a house.  Got on Wesley leadership.
Changed my major.  Grew up a bit.  I had an awesome roomie!

My big sister got married!

I got reallllly close with this girl.  We got involved
with a wonderful youth group!

And that summer all my best friends got married.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeffreys

Mr. and Mrs. Martinez

Mr. and Mrs. Esgar

And a multitude of other couples got hitched,
but I don't have that many pictures!

That same summer my other big sister got married!

Mr. and Mrs. Lott

And junior year snuck up on me…

And I met some girls who changed my life.

These four girls have been everything this year.  They are funny, sweet, encouraging, they keep me accountable and they challenge me.  I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls to be my best friends.  They picked me up, accepted me, and invited me in when my three best friends moved on.  I will be forever thankful to them for loving me, and I am so blessed with the way God provided for me in a time of need.

And I rekindled…or made stronger…or endured through tough times with this sweet friend.  We've been close since January of 2011 and I'm so glad to have her still.

I also had the opportunity to care for these sweet peas all year.
So blessed by them and so sad they are moving!!

We fired Tuberville and hired KLIFF KINGSBURY.  It's gonna be a great season, y'all.

And I moved home…out of my little house…that was so good to me for two years. I'm home for the summer, for the last time before true adulthood arrives.  I am so glad to be here spending time with friends and family.

Senior year…I'm ready for you!  But first, Summer, we meet again.
