Hello Sweet Cheer: June 2013

5 on Friday

Now that it's finally Friday I'm linking up with Hello! Happiness, A. Liz Adventures, Carolina Charm, and the good life blog for 5 on Friday!  Go check 'em out!

1.  4th of July is coming soon and I'm so excited!  I love BBQ's, pool time, parades, festive snacks, family fun and of course independence!  Happy almost birthday US of A!  And if you're interested in some great patriotic ideas (recipes, drinks, fashion, crafts) PLEASE head over to Little Baby Garvin.  Jessica is a holiday crazy and always has the greatest ideas to go along with the festivities!

2.  I'm off of work today and all of next week!  I'm excited for some down time and a few days in the Woodlands with my family!  Super excited to see/meet some of the ones who have been MIA for the past few years! (a few live in Germany, a few in Florida)

3.  I recently switched from the teal color Essie nail polish I raved about a few weeks ago.  Now I'm on this light pink that I really dig!  It rocks for summer because it looks awesome with tan hands!!

4.  I've been listening to this song on REPEAT this week.  Can't get enough really.

5.  I'm thinking about making these for the fam next week...thoughts?

There you have it!  Happy Friday friends, have a fabulous weekend!

I'm thankful for memories.

Thankful that they exist, thankful when they're clear, thankful when I can feel or smell or hear the things associated with a specfic memory.

I love to talk about my life.  People think I'm crazy.  Some probably think I'm really into myself.  I'm sure some think I'm annoying.  Regardless, I really don't care.  I talk about things because I love the memories!  I loove to reminisce and look at pictures and just remember the things and people I love in life.

With that I'm mind, let's go with this.  I'm thankful for my childhood!  Let me tell you, I was a sassy little girl (and I obviously still am) with a big big heart.  I have this sweet family who loves me and has shown me for the past 20 years (almost 21!!!) that I have value!  And even in the times I was very unlovable (which was a lot) they loved me through it.

As a kid I had the opportunity to go to summer camp at Camp Buckner in Burnet, TX.  My two older sisters went too and we all have such find memories of that place!  (i.e. the golden bowl, the ketchup song, Comanche vs. Apache wars, singing TAPS, fruits of the spirit song, etc).  I could go on forever!  I love when my sisters and I are together and we just talk and reminisce.  We sing and laugh and remember those super fun times!  And for those who are interested... here's the first verse and chorus of the ketchup song.

"I'm like a bottle of ketchup
With a slow pourin' blues
In the race to come up empty, Lord
I just don't wanna lose!

So pick me up and take my cap off Lord
And turn me upside down
Take your hand and whack my backside Lord
And pour me on the ground

Cause I wanna be filled with the Spirit
I wanna be useful and FREEEE
I wanna be filled with the Spirit Lord
Til I'm all empty of me!"

So my childhood was basically picture perfect.  If it were a movie it'd have no climax.  I'm not sure why this is what's in my mind today but it is!  Maybe because my baby sister has been at camp all week (a different one than I went to) so the memories are flooding back!

I also like to remind my older sister of the time she dropped me on my head as a baby (intentionally, might I add).  I blame that incident for all my craziness.  It's also fun to remember all the times my sisters video taped me talking in my sleep, tried to give me all their junk disguising it as gifts, and of course the many many times I brought them glasses of water late at night.  So yeah, being the 3rd out of 4 wasn't ALWAYS the greatest.  ;)

But the memories are priceless and I'm forever grateful that they are pleasant!  While we're on the subject of childhood, I know I'm blessed.  I know not everyone has good memories of theirs and I want to acknowledge that.  I'm lucky to have the family I have and blessed that my experiences are positive!  Hence the reason why I'm so dang thankful!!!

I hope your day is fabulous!  The weekend is almost here!

Trust Without Borders

We're halfway through the week, people!!  Yay!  The weekend is slowly creeping in...!

Not to mention next week is........

Eeeeeeeee! (one of my fav holidays y'all)

Today is usually "Wordless Wednesday" but right now I'm inspired.  I have lots on my mind and things to share.  These are the moments I'm so thankful to have a blog!  I love getting to write and write to my little heart's content.  Not to mention let other people read it and ask for their feedback.  I'm  getting excited just thinking about it!

As most of you know I'm home for the summer and in August will be heading back to Lubbock for my last year of college.  That's super crazy.  It's unbelievable, scary, exciting, and crazy all at the same time.  I'm thrilled about spending my last year with some people that I really love, serving in a place I really love, hopefully impacting lives for Christ, and getting to experience all my "lasts" in a city that will forever be "where I went to college".  And sorry, but I'm definitely gonna get a little bit somber because as excited as I am and as much as I can't wait to be finished with school I. Am. So. Scared.

Yep.  I admitted it.  I know I talk a big game about graduating and getting the heck out of there, but this is for reals, people.  I'm terrified of the thought of graduating college and suddenly having to find a job to support myself, start paying for everything on my own, get involved at a church ALONE, make new friends ON MY OWN.  Everything will suddenly become open ended in life and I don't know how to handle that.  It's no boogie-man-under-the-bed kind of terror, but I'd say it's pretty significant.  Last night as I was reading through all the blogs I follow, I came across a song I adore.  First of all, Hillsong United is like...um what?  Totally amazing.  I've loved them for a few years now and this song too but it came at just the right time.  I'll let you listen and then I'll expand.

So as I was laying my bed last night and this song began to play, I just felt peace.  There's really no other way to explain it but I felt an overwhelming calm.  The lines that really get me are:
"Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior"
And if you know me well you'll laugh because after the first time through I just kept playing it over and over and over.  I am so afraid of what will come.  Of all the responsibilities I'll pick up in less than a year.  Of everything new that will happen in my life.  And all I want is to be able to trust God in all of those things.  I pray that I would trust Him in the plan he has for my future (even when I think mine is better) and the things He is calling me to.  While all of that is super unknown and will probably always be scary, I'm learning what it means to have trust without borders.  My prayer is that I would trust with reckless abandon!  That I would worship and pray and live and glorify with reckless abandon!  I want the Lord to take me deeper than I can even fathom.

So if you feel so inclined, pray for me in that.  I'm really working through what that means and what it looks like in my every day life.  Pray that my love for God would overwhelm me to the point that I want nothing more than to abandon my heart to Him in everything I do!  And I pray that anyone and everyone reading this would be impacted by it in some form or fashion.

As always, thanks so much for reading!  I really really appreciate all the support.

4 Day Weekend Update!

Happy Monday, people!!

This weekend was especially joyous for me because...drumroll....it's not over yet!

I got a four day weekend after my first week of work!  The girls' stepdad was home Friday and their momma is off today!  That means the nanny gets a few days off.

Friday was mostly uneventful.  I slept in way too late, as I've gotten into the habit of doing on the weekends.  I did some blogging, read LOTS of blogs, wrote some future posts, and really just lounged on the couch.  Then I showered and got ready and went to see Monsters University with my best friend, Lauren, and her family.  It was so cute!  We loved it.  Since we both ate a late lunch we ended up going to Panda Express to grab a late dinner after the movie.  It was fun to hang out again since we've both been so busy lately!

Saturday I got up around 10am and hit the farmer's market in downtown McKinney with my parents!  It was so much fun.  I honestly didn't even realize we had a farmer's market here, but it was awesome.  We got peaches, squash, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and onions!  We also bought some yummy toffee from a Red Raider Alum and some sticks of flavored honey to chew on!  It was a huge success and we plan to go more often!

When we got home we ate lunch and hit the pool!  We really just can't do anything but swim around here.  We love it!  Saturday night my parents went out with some friends so Camille and I had our own date!  We went out to eat, spent a little time shopping at Plato's Closet and Target, and rented a redbox movie!  It was a sweet sweet night.

These are my purchases :)

Sunday was church, chicken for lunch and then packing my little sister for camp!  Last night we dropped her off at the church to start the long overnight drive to Florida!  We are so excited for her and will be praying non stop.  The plan for today is to enjoy a quiet morning (mom and dad back at work, Camille in FL).  I love sitting on the back deck with my coffee and a good book!  Then Lauren and I plan to do some light shopping and maybe lounge by the pool.  And I have an aerobics class to attend tonight!

And guess what comes on tonight?!  THE BACHELORETTE.  I know, it's terrible but I'm a sucker for reality TV.

Hope your weekend was swell.  Linking up with SamiLeann, Molly and Carly today!

P.S. How about Nik Wallenda crossing the Grand Canyon last night LIVE on national television!?!?!  That was super crazy.  While I don't at all support what they do (risk their lives constantly), I LOVED how He praised the name of Jesus the entire 22 minutes!  He even called down the authority of God to calm the winds.  What an incredible testimony!

Friends, girlfriends, roommates, college buddies...

Today I want to give a huge shout out to four of my favorite girlfriends!  I am thankful for them.  They are the sweetest and I couldn't be more blessed to call them my best friends.  I'm missing them a lot these days but I will see them so soon!  August is just around the corner.  Without further adieu...

Meet Abby.

Abigail Myers Graham.

This gal is the sweetest.  She is always always smiling.  I love that about her.  She is so much fun to be around!  Always giggling, and keeping everyone in a good mood.  When she walks into a room, I can't help but smile and be happy!  She makes me excited to see her every day just because I know it be will fun!  We think similarly so that makes for some fun conversations!  Lots of agreeing :)  I am challenged by her compassion and love for others.  She is always using her outgoing and bright spirit to cheer people up, make people feel welcome, and get to know others.  She gives all the glory back to Jesus which is yet another thing about her that challenges me!  I learn from her every day and am SO blessed to have her in my life.

Meet Hillary.

Hillary Grace Joiner.

I love this girl so much.  For starters, isn't she just beautiful?!  I mean really, she has a natural beauty about her that is incredible.  Wow.  Anyway, Hillary is so much fun.  She is spontaneous and loves spending time with people.  The greatest thing about Hillary, in my opinion, is how supportive she is.  This girl is my biggest cheerleader!  From encouraging me in my blogging to complimenting my silly tweets, to liking all my pictures on Facebook...she is my #1 fan.  The cool thing is that this is just her personality.  She is supportive of the ones that she loves and it goes a long way!  She is very opinionated, just like me!  This gets us into trouble sometimes but it's a fun trait to share!  We also share a love of sports, specifically Texas Tech football!  I love her so much and I can't imagine what this past year would have been like without her.

Meet Erin.

Erin Lynne Davis.

Erin has such a big heart.  She hurts for people with an incredible amount of sympathy.  I think sometimes she literally feels others' pain.  That's just how compassionate she is.  I would love to say that we share this quality but she has definitely taught me a lot about compassion!  She loves Jesus so much and wants to be part of sharing Him with people who are in pain.  She is way too cool to be my friend, she has a style all her own (that I totally wish I could pull off but I can't), and she always has the inside scoop on EVERYTHING.  It's a true talent, people.  Erin is such a sweet person and I'm honored to be her friend.

Meet Jenna.

Jenna Denae Carse.

I'm going to go ahead and call Jenna a free spirit.  She can pretty much sleep anywhere, she is always down to do something fun, and she is HYSTERICAL.  I'm talking she's so funny I almost pee my pants when I'm around her...she's the real deal.  I love her for all that.  Aside from all the crazy, Jenna has such a huge heart.  She loves the Lord and wants to serve him with everything she does.  Her ability to wrap her arms around you and make you feel at home is astounding.  I love her dearly and am so thankful for her.

These girls mean the world to me.  I've talked about them multiple times here but I still have more to say.  They are the group of girlfriends I never had, they love me through all my craziness, they are there for me when I need them...I could go on forever.  The Lord has truly blessed me with an awesome group of girls to call my best friends.  I love you, babes.

And as if I haven't already said enough, here are some more pictures to help you get to know them better!

One time they asked me to take a picture of them taking out the trash...smh

Lastly, three of these sweet girls are going to be my roommates next year!  I'm thrilled to get to do life with them on a daily basis and now it will be 24/7 and they'll never get rid of me! ;)

These are the crazy people I'll be living with.

The one who isn't living with us is Hillary.  She, along with the other three, graduated high school in 2011 (one year after I did).  She came to college with FORTY-something hours of credit toward her degree.  Yes, that's right 4-0, FORTY.  With that being said, she's been taking heavy semesters and will be graduating this August!  She is finishing college in 2 years and a summer.  I know, it's totally crazy!  Here's the coolest part: she's moving to Nigeria in September!  She will be doing some accounting work during the days and spending the rest of her time hanging out at the orphanage and building relationships with people!  We are so proud of her and can't wait to hear all about her adventures in Africa.  She'll be there for six months so it costs a lot of money!  If you're interested at all in helping her out finanically or even through prayer, you can e-mail her at hillary.joiner@ttu.edu.  Thank you in advance!  We will miss her dearly while she's gone but we know the Lord has incredible plans for her life!

Well if you've made it all the way to the end of this, I applaud you!  Thanks for listening to me ramble on about these girls!  Happy Thursday, everyone.

Anything you're super thankful for today?

Random Wednesday

YES YES YES YES YES YES!  Last night this cutie won The Voice!  Been a fan from the beginning.  Can't wait to buy her album!

She was too sweet and just like anyone else would be in that situation, she was speechless.

Of course I couldn't post about The Voice without mentioning one of my favorite people EVER...Blake Shelton.  What a guy!  I will be on Team Blake forever.  Congrats on that three-peat!

I could also never post about The Voice without mentioning these two guys, The Swon Brothers!

They are such talented musicians and I think they were the best artists on the show!  Their harmonies are totally legit, they have this chemistry that just draws you in, and they perform so well!  I can't wait to go to their next swoncert!

Happy Wednesday!

Linking up with Shanna today!
