Hello Sweet Cheer: August 2013

So the first week of school was a bit stressful and taking 21 hours is really starting to sink in!  So that's why I haven't posted since Monday!  I'm super excited because I FINALLY start my practicum on Monday!  I'm interning with Adoption Covenant in Lubbock and I couldn't be more thrilled.  I'm excited to get to see a little bit more of adoption from the inside!  Anyway here we go with my first "Currently" post!

Listening: Hot 20 Countdown on CMT.  It's a Saturday ritual at home in McKinney and I'm implementing it here!

Drinking: Coffee....what else?!  This morning I slept in a bit so yes it's almost noon and I'm having my coffee.  College life.

Wearing: I've already showered today which is the ONLY reason I'm already out of my pajamas!

Feeling: Sleepy, a bit overwhelmed, excited.  My girls and I had some major pillow talk last night...hence the sleepiness.  I'm starting to really feel the pace I'm going to have to run at this semester.  It's only the end of the first week and I already have to have an entire novel read by Tuesday and presenatation ready by Wednesday!  Eeeeeek.  Nonetheless, I'm excited about this semester and what it holds!  It's gonna be a good one.  I really can't believe it's my last football season as a student...I digress.

Pics from our  game watching party last night...WE WON! #wreckem

Weather: Pretty pretty pretty!  Bright and sunny outside but pretty warm so not planning to spend much time outside today!

Wanting: I'm pretty content at the moment.  Sitting on the couch, sipping my coffee, listening to the hottest country songs in the background...I can't ask for too much more.  Except maybe some down time, some solitude with Jesus...you know, the norm.

Needing:  Read, read, read.  A novel called "Castle of Otranto" (bleh) and I have to read a chapter of a textbook to prepare for my presentation!  Also, this may be a want too but I feel like I need hugs from my momma and daddy!  Always miss them.

Thinking: About all the little babies that have been coming into the world this week and all the ones that will come into the world in the next few months!  A few summers ago I knew a TON of people getting married.  Right now I know at least eight people who just had a baby, are about to have a baby, or recently announced their pregnancy!  Praying blessings over those families!

Enjoying: The quiet in my house right now.  One roommate sleeping, one at work, one relaxing in her room, me on the couch.  I love slow mornings.

Have a great weekend, friends!

My Weekend in Pictures

Happy Monday, friends!  I hope you had a great weekend!

Friday night my roommate Abby and I had a movie night at home!  It was nice to just relax for a bit!

Saturday we ran a few errands but mostly just spent the day soaking up our last moments of summer...AKA laying on the couch, watching netflix, etc.  It's riveting stuff, I know.  I indulged in this super cheesy, low budget Christian film called Love's Long Journey (I've seen it multiple times).  I happen to absolutely LOVE this series but I'm probably in the 1% of the country who does.  If this movie cover gives you any insight....

Saturday evening our roommate Erin and her parents arrived with all her things!  We helped unload the furniture and then called it a night!  Sunday we went to church and got to see some friends we hadn't seen in a while so that was nice.  Annnnd I thought I had more pictures from this weekend but I don't...womp womp womp.

But I DO have pictures from this morning!  My roommates and I have named our house The Dwelling...Erin came up with it in the Spring and it just stuck!  So The Dwelling is FINALLY full of all its residents and we've all started school!  We couldn't let the day pass without taking some classic first day pictures.  Without further adieu...

 Me and Abby

 Jenna and Erin

So that's what I've been doing!  Things are good and school has only just begun.  We'll see how crazy this semester gets!  To be a little more honest and real here...it's not all gravy around these parts.  I'm struggling to put full faith in Jesus that He has a plan for me in this life.  It's my last year of college, I have no idea where I'll be come May and that is super. duper. scary.  I hate that I'm so nervous about this kind of thing!  I want to just surrender it to the Lord and let Him be in control but it's so hard!  I'm working on it and praying through it every day.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by my piece of the internet!  You guys rock.

5 on Friday!

Happy Friday friends!

Instead of going back to the always easy "Insta Friday" post, I think I'll dive into 5 on Friday again.  Linking up with these ladies!  Go check out their blogs!  This way I can force myself to actually write something worthwhile and not skimp because I'm lazy! ;)  Here goes!

1.  I start my senior year of college in THREE DAYS.  On Monday morning, I'll wake up and get ready for my first class as a SENIOR.  I'm so excited and I really can't believe it's already here.  I know I've been saying that all summer but it's STILL hard to believe!  I went from laying on my twin bed in my dorm room as a freshman,

to feeling connected with friends and getting closer to Jesus as a sophomore,

to making all NEW friends as a junior (when all mine got married or graduated),

to now.  I'm beginning my senior year in a wonderful house with my three best friends!  And we couldn't be more thrilled!  Praying for a fabulous last year at Tech.

2.  My wonderful drill team director, Shara, announced a few weeks ago that she and her family are moving to North Carolina!  Obviously, I'm not on the team anymore but it's still so sad that she's leaving.  I always loved going back to see her and getting the scoop on what's going on!  I got to spend a wonderful evening with her and her daughter just before I came back to Lubbock.  I'm so glad we got to do that!  I will miss her dearly but hope to see her back here when the holidays roll around!

Precious Caroline!

3.  Funny story...kind of.  My roommate and I got tricked into paying this 13 year old kid $20 to mow our front lawn (which is TINY).  And he wanted another $20 for the back.  We've never paid anyone to mow before so this was all brand new to us.  Little Mario got way more than what he worked for.  Anyway, come to find out there's a lawn guy our landlord uses (he has a team of 4 guys), and they get the work done in 15 minutes tops.  They mowed, edged and blew for THIRTY DOLLARS.  Can you believe that?!  It's this guy's main job and we only paid $30!  So basically we got scammed. haha!  You live and learn I guess...

4.  The other day I sent off some adorable baby gifts to my sweet friends who are having little ones soon!  Josh and Elise Hurst are due in October and they aren't finding out the gender!  I could never...but props to them for not caving!  And Eric and Sydney Burleson are expecting a baby girl, Ellie Grace, in December.  I, of course, had to send them Tech gear...what could they need more?!

And for the baby that could be a boy OR a girl...I don't have a picture!  But I got a little Red Raider t-shirt and a few bibs!  I can't wait to share pics of the babies in these outfits!

5.  Last but not least, with the help of my friend Kathryn, I'm officially leading the Spring Break mission trip back to Haiti!  It's crazy exciting, scary, and a huge test of faith all at the same time!  I know the Lord is going to do big things through this trip and the people who will be on it!  Praising Him for the opportunity to go back a FOURTH time and be leading the group!!

These pictures cause a stirring in my heart.  I am full of joy when I think about the fact that I get to be back in the place that I love so much!  If you pray, would you consider praying for this trip?  For the Lord to be the leader, that I might get out of the way and allow Him to work.  And for my sanity, that the planning of this trip doesn't become so stressful that I miss out on anything or allow relationships to be neglected.

Thanks in advance and have a FABULOUS weekend!

P.S. My sweet friends (and roomies) Jenna and Erin got back from Costa Rica safe and sound!  Can't wait to see them tomorrow!

11 Questions from Melissa:
Describe your happiest childhood memory.
My happiest childhood memory would have to be Collier family vacation!  For as long as I can remember my mom's side of the family would go to either the beach or the mountains every summer.  It was always an exciting time to catch up with my cousins and have a little adventure!

Who do you talk to every day?
This is tough because it depends on where I am.  I talk to my mom every day when I'm at home (and most days when I'm not) and I talk to my friends Abby and Erin every day when I'm in Lubbock!

What do your family and friends think about your blogging?
My family and friends are super supportive of my blogging!  A lot of them are faithful to read my posts regularly and they know how much I love it!  I've gotten really positive feedback from lots of people!

Sausage or bacon?
     Bacon for sure.

What is the first item on your wish list?
I would LOVE to have a nicer coffee maker!  Maybe a Keurig or something!

     Taco salad!

Three favorite online shopping websites?
Forever 21, Target, Banana Republic (not that I ever do online shopping - too poor haha!)

If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be and why?
I would be my sweet momma.  Just so I could walk a day in her shoes, and maybe appreciate her a bit more than I already do!

Favorite quote.
"Be still my heart." (Not sure if this counts! Oh well!)

What is the best and worst about blogging?
The best thing about blogging is the outlet that it gives me!  I love being able to get my thoughts out in a positive way.  The worst part is staying consistent even when I feel like I don't have much to write about!

I have returned!

Hi friends!

So sorry for the silence last week...

I had no intention of leaving blogland last week.  It was one of those things where I just wasn't feeling super inspired.  I felt like I had been writing the same posts over and over for the past few weeks and really just had a bit of writer's block.  Really though, I think it did me some good!  I'm glad to be back and I do have a bit of a change coming your way!

I'm back in Lubbock for my senior year.  It's really happening and I totally can't believe it.  Since I'll be starting back to classes in a week (and I'm taking 21 hours) I've decided to pull back on posting five times a week.  I'll go back down to three times a week to give myself a little breathing room!  I'll do my best to make every post worthwhile!!

Today and tomorrow I've got a leadership retreat for the ministry I'm involved in here, so that should be a lot of fun!  I got here Saturday night and I feel like I've been busy ever since I walked in the door!  But I'm totally loving living in this new house!  It's such a nice change from my last house.  My best friend and roommate, Abby, gets here today!  YAY!!!  I'm so excited to see her face and get her to myself for the week!  As a reminder...this is what she looks like:

Well I'm off to plan, dream, pray for this coming semester...happy Monday!!

P.S. Today is my Grandmother's EIGHTY-SECOND birthday!  Wowza, people!  That is a long time to be here on this earth but I'm praying her day is SWELL!

Saturday Insta Recap

Happy Saturday, people!  It's my last full weekend in McKinney before I go back to Lubbock!  That's exciting and sad all at the same time.  I'm going to miss my family so so much but I'm also really excited to get back to Tech and start my senior year!  Pray that the transition back to school will go smoothly and my semester goes well!

On to the Insta Recap...

Just a little Monday morning creativity!

Said goodbye to our sweet friends a few days ago.

Only one week left!

I hope your week was swell.  It's the weekend...have some fun!

Today Marks the End

Hi friends!  Happy Thursday!!

Today marks the end of a wonderful few weeks at my house!  This morning my family and I dropped off our sweet Chinese friends, Candy and Linda, at the church to head off to the airport.  After leaving here they are headed to Las Vegas and then Las Angeles!

It was a bit of a tough goodbye.  We had such a wonderful time getting to know them and showing them around McKinney.  They were such polite guests and will forever hold a special place in my heart.  I know I'm going to miss them dearly!

Here are some pictures from our time together!

(a picture of a picture...terrible, I know!)

The past three weeks have been such a cool ministry experience.  We've gotten to show them the love of Christ and teach them all kinds of things about the United States of America.  I miss them already and hope to see them again one day!!

We love you Candy and Linda!

Weekend Update: Our New House!

Happy Monday, friends!

My weekend was a lot of fun!  My family and I went to Lubbock and moved my things into my new rent house!  I got to spend the weekend with one of my roommates and her parents.  It was exhausting but so worth it!  I love our new house and I can’t wait until we all get there in a few weeks!  We still have a lot to do in the living and dining room, but Abby and I’s bedrooms are finished, along with most of the kitchen!  I won’t make you wait any longer…here are the pictures!

I couldn’t be more excited to start my senior year of college in a just a few short weeks!  And living with my best friends isn’t bad either… ;)
