Hello Sweet Cheer: September 2013

Saturday Insta Round Up

Happy Weekend, friends!  I hope this Saturday has been treating you well so far!

The best part of my week is when I get to intern at Adoption
Covenant where I'm learning more and more about adoption.

My roommates and I decorated for Fall! :)

Coffee date!

A few students at the youth group I volunteer with!
They were matching so it had to be documented!

A yummy wowieccino from Sheridan's!

Broke out the boots the other day.
Too we still have highs in the 90s next week :(

Lately I've been listening to The Dearest Place series from The Village Church.  It's an awesome six part series about the church and I've been soaking in a lot of truth through it.  Go check it out on iTunes if you get a chance!  Currently the Lord is teaching me a lot about trust, patience, and busyness.  These are three things the Lord is ALWAYS teaching me about but even more specifically now.  He's been giving me small glimpses of skills I need to hone that I'll use constantly after college.  It doesn't make graduation or the future any more unknown, but it encourages me that I won't have to go through it alone.  My Savior will be walking with me every step of the way.  I've been clinging to that simple fact lately.
"He is my refuge and fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:2

It's been a while... Life has been quick and busy but blogging has been slooooow.

Many times over the past few weeks I've started to write a post and then stopped.  I'm not sure why that is, exactly.  I've been wanting to post so badly but haven't had a whole lot to say.  At any rate, here are the past 12 days in pictures!

Typical girl's nights

We decorated for Fall! :)

My roommates and I shared the yummiest treat at Pie Bar!

I made the best Pinterest recipe!

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.  Thaw out a few chicken breasts, wash and cut fresh green beans, dice some new potatoes.  Put it all in a pyrex (or whatever you like to use).  I would suggest covering the pyrex with foil first so it's easier to wash later (I obviously didn't do that here).  Drizzle some olive oil, season with garlic powder, onion powder, and italian seasoning.  Recipe calls for a stick of butter in the pan but I was going for something a little healthier.  Throw it in the oven for an hour and enjoy!  This literally took 20 minutes of prep time.  A great meal for a busy evening!

Had a nice coffee date with my goofy roommates.

Texas Tech Football!  Game four.  We won again!  Now we have a bye week to prepare for our next Big 12 match-up.

That's all for today.  I'm going to do my best to stick to a blogging schedule this semester.  The past few weeks have been a huge learning experience.  It takes effort to keep this thing up!  I love it but I have to put in the time to make it what I want it to be!  Thanks so much for reading.  You'll never understand how much I appreciate it!

Happy Saturday!

The weekend is here!  Do you ever feel like the entire week you're just waiting for Friday to arrive and then Monday comes way too quick...?  Yeah, me too!  But I'm going to try to enjoy the weekend and do as much relaxing as possible!

The Red Raiders put another W in the books Thursday night, thank goodness!  It was a strange game, and pretty stressful at times but we finished with a score of 20-10 and "upset" the 24th ranked TCU.  I put quotations around that because it wasn't a huge surprise that we won, just technically an upset since they were ranked.  Anyway... Josh Abbott performed at half time and we had a lot of fun!

I've already had a great morning and it's only 10:30am!  My roommate Abby and I went to Chick-fil-A for free breakfast, which was great!  And then we stopped by the Lubbock farmer's market!  I went to the one in McKinney a few times this summer with my parents, so I wanted to see how the one here matched up!  Sadly, it was much smaller than the one at home and for today at least, not all the produce looked so great!  But it was still fun to go down there and walk around a bit.

Today I want to share a song that I love.  It's a worship song we sing at my church and it's one of my favorites!  Here it is... I hope you'll listen to it as you read the rest of this post!

Every word of this song is powerful.  The way it describes my Savior and assures us about who He truly is...I feel the Spirit's presence every single time we worship to it!
God undefeatable, kingdom unshakeable
In majesty and power You reign
Love undeniable, matchless and bountiful
To waken us to life You came
You came
My Lord is undefeatable!  No one has the ability to overthrow His power.  His Kingdom will not be shaken.  He reigns with power that I can't even begin to understand.  "Love undeniable, matchless and bountiful"  This line really gets me.  His love is undeniable!  And can't be matched by anyone or anything!  There is NOTHING that can fulfill you, me, or anyone more than the love of a spotless lamb, a savior, who gave His life to account for my sin.  I'm overwhelmed by the truth of this song.  I could easily dissect every line of it but I'll leave you to listen to the whole thing.  It's a powerful song and full of so much truth.  (If you're interested in the theology behind this song you can check out this, written by some guys at Austin Stone Community Church.)

In this stage of my life, this song has been key.  The past few weeks starting my last year at Tech have been a lot of fun, but they've also been tough.  I'm struggling to see what's next, where I fit, and how I'm going to leave this place I've grown to love so dearly.  In that, the Lord has been teaching me a whole lot of patience (something I think he's always teaching me and will continue to teach me for the rest of my life).  I'm seeing where I need to repent, where I have a lot of room to grow, where I need help, where I need accountability...I feel like this is a pressure cooker season.  A place where God has put me in a pressure cooker to grow, change, and mold me at a faster pace than usual.  I'm thankful for that, but if you've ever been through a season like that you know that it can be tough too!

Thanks for reading, thanks for listening!  The fact that you've taken time out of your day to read this means a lot!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

The Game of a Lifetime

Alright so it’s Thursday and I haven’t blogged all week.  I have to say, it feels weird!  I had a busy week last week and a crazy packed weekend!  So this week every quiet moment has been napping or lounging to recover from last week’s craziness!

On Friday my roommates and I threw a surprise backyard going away party for our sweet friend Hillary!  She just graduated from Tech in August with a degree in Accounting and is leaving to go overseas in about a week!  She’ll be there working with a missions organization for six months.  We are super proud of her and can’t wait to hear about all that goes on there.  We set up a screen and projector, lanterns all around the yard, watched her favorite movie and had all her favorite snacks!  It was super fun!

Saturday was game day, of course!  It was the home opener and we striped out the Jones…it was beyond perfect!  We had so much fun cheering on our Red Raiders and were just so happy to finally be back at a football game after a LONG summer!  As if that wasn’t good enough, Hillary was recruited by and is friends with the Chancellor of our University.  They were texting during the game and we ended up getting invited up to his suite for the second half of the game!  It was an incredible experience.  Chancellor Hance is the nicest man!  He took time out of his evening to meet us, chat with us, and give us advice.  It was so much fun to get to do that with all my best friends!  We had a blast and I’ll NEVER forget the first game of my senior year!!

So excited to be in the suite! :)

Such a great view of the field!

We owe all thanks to Hillary for being such a great student and letting us get in on her connection with Chancellor Hance!  I am just so thankful!  And of course we owe a lot to the Chancellor for being such an awesome guy!

Sunday was a little more relaxed but it was also the day Hillary left!  We had to say goodbye, which was tough, but she’ll be back in no time!  Love you baby Hill.

Hope your weekend was fab and this week hasn’t been too bad either!

And guess what… IT’S GAME DAY AGAIN!  We play TCU tonight and we’re blacking out the Jones!  I’m so excited to see the guys play again and bring their best!  WRECK ‘EM!
