Hello Sweet Cheer: 2014

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from the soon-to-be Holguins!  Such a sweet celebration of our Savior's humble birth.  Looking forward to a beautiful 2015!

Sunday Times | 20 days until Holguin

Today marks exactly twenty days until our wedding day!  It also marks four days until Christmas, eleven days until the new year, and forty-eight days since the last time I blogged. Yikes!  This wedding planning stuff is more time consuming that I expected it to be!  Since the last time I blogged I/we have...

-turned twenty two
-found my wedding dress
-moved all my furniture into our new house
-had two bridal showers
-got a dog, Porter
-enjoyed Thanksgiving with Ryan's family
-received our marriage license
-experienced a really tough loss, my Gramps
-seen a ton of family (thanksgiving + funeral)
-realized we want to have kids sooner than later
-completed our premarital counseling
-met some new people at church: looking for an adult GC

As you can tell, the future Holguins have been pretty busy as of late!

My birthday was swell! Ryan took me to Texas Roadhouse and we grubbed! He brought me BEAUTIFUL flowers, as usual, and we spent the evening relaxing before we had our first Skype session of premarital counseling.

just your typical birthday selfie ;)

I found the gown! I said yes to the dress! Alert the town, I found my gown! And however else you'd like to express that.  I found it and I love it so much.  I can't wait to walk down the aisle in it, in just twenty days.  We found a cute, little rent house, signed a lease and got Ryan all moved in.  It's the sweetest first house, we are thrilled to have it.  I've already mostly completed the decor, including a Christmas tree and all the trimmings!  I'm excited about officially being a resident of it after the wedding!

My two showers were SO MUCH FUN.  I loved them.  The pictures are explanation enough!  I am so thankful to have such sweet people in my life to throw me two showers that were both amazing!

We got the best dog ever!  His name is Porter.  He is a basenji, jack russell terrier mix.  He is so sweet and cuddly.  He can be pretty hyper but we love him so much!  We have a ton of fun with him.

We got to spend some time with Ryan's family for Thanksgiving in Midland.  It was so much fun!

We got our marriage license recently!  One step closer to being husband and wife!  :)  We celebrated with an early morning date.  We drank our coffee and read a few Psalms together.  Such joy in that.

My sweet Grampy passed away on November 19th.  He was the most wonderful man.  Such a sweet grandpa, the greatest father and husband.  I miss him so so much.  It was bittersweet, I hated having to gather with family for such an occasion, but Ryan got to meet almost all of my cousins and aunts and uncles.  It was wonderful to be with them and see my love begin a relationship with them as well.

Kids....the topic I love so much!  Originally we had talked about having babies after about 2-3 years of marriage.  Of course that would be ideal, we would be more financially stable, more established in our marriage and in our relationship, Ryan would be out of school, etc.  But in all reality, we are in love, we love children and are so excited about becoming parents, some. day.  We will enjoy our time as a married couple for the rest of our lives, kiddos or no kiddos.  I love that we are adults and we get to make this decision together, without everyone else's "expert opinion".  I'm not saying we're going to have a honeymoon baby, but I'm not saying we won't.  We want to allow our lives to play out however they will, by the leadership of our Savior!  And I will continue to look forward to the day I get to feel our sweet babe growing inside my belly!

We recently completed our premarital counseling with Tanner and Kendra, Tanner is a pastor at Ryan's home church, Redemption, who is marrying us!  It was a joy to get to know them and have them guide us in some of the toughest parts of marriage.

We've also had the opportunity to meet a few married couples from our church as we have been looking for an adult GC.  We are excited about the prospect of a new GC in the Spring, that includes lots of married couples and even some families!  It has been such a joy to get to know these sweet couples.

All in all, it has been a beautiful 2014, and a busy last few months!!  I'll be honest, I may or not blog again before the wedding.  Hey, at least I'm being honest ;)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

November Has Arrived

Hello friends!

It's been quite some time since I've posted on this here space of mine!  Almost a month....yikes!  Since we got engaged life has been busy, busy, busy!  I have been enjoying getting to do all the most exciting things about planning our wedding.  We registered, we found a house, I found my dress, the bridesmaids dresses, we wrote our vows, my mom has been hard at work on decor, I designed our wedding website, we ordered our wedding bands and we're now in the process of choosing music and planning the rehearsal dinner!  It has been a whirlwind be we are thrilled and counting down the days. SIXTY-NINE of them...oh my goodness, I will be Mrs. Holguin so so soon!  I'm going to do my best to keep blogging throughout the process (mostly for my own memory of this time in life).

Here are some pictures of what's been going on lately!

Ryan was in a wedding in Junction, TX!  We made a weekend of it and stayed with his mom in San Antonio.  We had a blast!  Love spending time with family.

We hung out at the house on Saturday and spent our Sunday afternoon on the river walk.  We always love getting to see his sweet Momma and little brother, Tommy!

We spent one Saturday morning at the pumpkin patch!  It was beautiful.  We picked out two big orange ones and then got some smaller gourds at the grocery store.

We broke our Dr. Pepper hiatus!  We just love DP too much.  And we decided to eat healthy in exchange for cutting out Dr. Pepper.  We are trying!  ;)

And we've spent a few evenings with my friend Danielle and her sweet girls!  We usually watch the Tech games with her when the team is away.  And this time we captured a glimpse into our future! *heart eyes*

So as you can see, things are moving full speed ahead around here!  My birthday is on Tuesday, I've got a few showers coming up, the holidays and then it will be TIME TO GET HITCHED!

I am so in love with Ryan and so in love with my Savior.  I continue to fail and He still wants me.  This week my goal is to pick a place in scripture and keep myself accountable to read every day.  This is an exciting time in my life but I have to keep reminding myself that I must lean on Jesus, and remember that He is truly all I need each day.  That is true now during this season of engagement, and that will be true from January 11th through the rest of this life in my marriage.  We don't need each other, we need Jesus.  And we have chosen to need Jesus together.

We're Engaged!

Helllllo my bloggie friends!  Happy October!  I'm so glad the season is really beginning to change.

Well, it's official!  I am engaged to the love of my life, Ryan.  He is the most wonderful man I've ever met.  He loves me so well and points me to Jesus daily.  I couldn't have asked for anyone better to be my partner for the rest of this life!  His care for me is unmatched with anyone but my Savior.  I can't wait to be Mrs. Holguin and to get to call Ryan my husband!  I love him so so much.

He asked me on September 29th, 2014 and this is how it went....

I got home from work about 5:45pm.  I walked into my bedroom to find a note that said, "Dinner tonight?" and half a dozen roses on my night stand.  One of my favorite outfits was laid out on my bed complete with jewelry options and a clutch!  I immediately started bawling as I realized what was about to happen.  I curled my hair and got all ready and Ryan picked me up around 8pm.  We went to Abuelo's for dinner, the same place we ate on our first date!  Dinner was so yummy and so much fun.   We slurped down our last Dr. Peppers together until the wedding.  (We had already talked about giving up DP during our engagement, he's really just supporting me, he's so sweet!)  We spent time talking about all the funny things that happened that first night and just enjoyed each other's company.

After dinner we drove out to a neighborhood called Vintage Township, where they have a really pretty outdoor fireplace and terrace.  We walked around the park once and then sat down at the fireplace and turned the flames on behind us.  We talked and just spent some time enjoying the moment.  Ryan started to talk about our relationship and how thankful he is for me, and lots of other sweet things.  He then asked me to stand up, and after a few more words he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!  Through a lot of tears I said YES!

Here are some sweet pics!

Afterward, our sweet friends had us over for wine and cheesecake!  And lots of pictures and smiles and congratulations!  It was such a fun night and I'll remember it forever!

We'll be married on January 10, 2015 and we are thrilled!  We're counting down the days.  (it's 97, by the way)  In the meantime, you can check out or wedding website here!
