Hello Sweet Cheer: September 2015

Cultivating a Thankful Heart + Awaiting Fall

Happy Saturday!

I am so ready for cooler temps so that we can enjoy boots and jackets and fall-y things! I love to wear a giant pullover with jeggings and a good pair of fall boots. The word ready doesn't even do it justice. Before we get all wrapped up in all things fall, I want to stop and talk about a few things that have been heavy on my heart over the about the last month.

My desire has been for Jesus to grant me a thankful, humble heart. And my prayer has been answered deeper and bigger than what I ever could have imagined (as per usual). The Lord has pressed deeply on my heart about His glorious creation. We are given such grace through the blessing of bestowing our eyes upon the most gorgeous trees, intricate and tiny insects, the simple and sweet beauty of flowers, and everything else around us.

God's word tells us in Genesis 1...
"And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:11-12
The Lord created all of this out of nothing and we get the privilege of enjoying it's beauty. And even more striking to me is the fact the God created it all, controls it all and yet... He desires a personal relationship with me. He desires for me to be His daughter, an heir to the throne of grace, His precious child. This is a truth that the Lord has been sweetly whispering to me lately. I am daily overcome by the BIGNESS and Glory of God that He would CREATE this entire existence, this world and everything surrounding it -  yet still desire to know me fully and for me to know Him richly.

I think this truth can be such a good and healthy reminder of the simple beauties about our Savior that are easily forgotten. As we walk with Him and life is life - surprising us at every turn - we tend (better yet, I tend) to forget how BIG of a God we serve. And today I just wanted to put it into words. So that maybe, just maybe, one of you reading might remember and feel that still, small voice whispering to you about His massive creation and His even more massive desire to know you. I asked God to give me humility and thankfulness deep in my soul and what He showed me was glory upon glory upon glory that only He deserves.

And with that, I feel like I can move forward with being ECSTATIC for fall. We are about to move into a season of thankfulness so I wanted to begin the season with sharing how thankful I am for the bigness of my God before breaking out pumpkins and cinnamon and crunching leaves! And let me tell you, those things are in full force now! Check out a few of my Hobby Lobby finds...

(just ignore the amount of dust on my wine bottles....)

Have a wonderful weekend!

25 Before 25: An Update

The week before school started I was pretty gosh darn stressed out. Busy doesn't even describe. I was feeling the pressure and it was noticeable to everyone around me. Just when I didn't know how much more I could take, my sweetest gem of a hubby booked me a swedish massage.

He was the most precious and wanted to surprise me but he couldn't wait so he told me the day before! I was so excited and just felt so loved and pursued by him. We woke up that Saturday morning and went to Starbucks. I got an iced coffee and some lemon pound cake. Ryan got the house brew and started working on some homework. I ate my pound cake and sipped my coffee until my bestie friend Jessica got there. Then we walked over to the nail salon in that same shopping center and got ourselves some pedicures! I had been needing one after such a busy summer with a kiddo so it was quite over due.

After our pedicure I went home to rest and eat something for lunch. I guzzled as much water as I could to prepare for my afternoon. I got ready in the comfiest outfit I could put together and headed out the door to get my first ever massage!!!

The Woodhouse Day Spa is the most relaxing and wonderful place. The service was wonderful, my robe was amazing, and the actual massage was better than I ever could have expected. I feel so blessed and thankful to be married to a man that continually pursues my heart, desires to serve me every day and knows exactly when I need a little R&R. I love my husband so much1

Thanks babe, for helping me fulfill one more item on my bucket list! :)

It's September!

It's hard to believe. I have officially started my teaching job and it's been good. My students are great, challenging, but so great. It's a totally different experience to be on the teacher side of school versus the student side. I have enjoyed it so much and am looking forward to getting things planned out a little earlier so that I feel more prepared going into my lessons each day!

Here's what's been going down since the last time I blogged!

I had my last day with my sweet Nikke girl! I miss her precious smile and all her sweet sweet hugs!

We went to the Holguin family reunion! That was so much fun.

And Ryan did some spoken word at church that same weekend. It was so beautiful and such a sweet way to worship our King!

My father-in-law and brother-in-law's girlfriend came to church to see him! It was so fun to have them there and we had a yummy lunch afterward!

We spent some sweet time with our friends and had community group at a local Sunday night summer lawn concert! We loved it.

Then one night I made the most amazing chicken fried rice....! Recipe can be found on my Instagram account, just scroll back a few weeks.

We took this awesome picture hanging out one night...lol

My husband was the sweetest ever. He knew how stressed I was with work and the beginning of the school year so he booked me a MASSAGE and let me go with my bestie to get a fresh pedicure before the year started! Husband of the year am I right?!

Here I am all comfy before I left for the spa! :)

We traded in our little Prius. It was time to move up to a small SUV (2013 Subaru Crosstrek) for the sake of being prepared for a future family!

And then we broke in the Subaru by taking a weekend trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico with our besties. We stayed in a condo close to downtown and spent the weekend relaxing, walking around looking at all the cute shops, hiking, eating yummy food, and just preparing our hearts and minds for the impending school year!

And then the day came. I finished my classroom and went home to rest before the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. I was proud to have finished everything but nervous for the day to come!

The first week of school was really good. It was new and exciting and good to get my feet wet with first days of school things!

And here are some fun and silly pictures from the last week or so!

I had menudo for the first time...so yummy!

We stayed the night at the Gray's house last Friday so we could all get up early and drive to Odessa for a foster and respite-care training on Saturday! It was quite the day!

Hubby treated me to MarketStreet dinner after a tough work day. He is BEST.

And these words have carried me! I mean carried. me. Jesus is so so sweet.

So there's a summary of the past month! I'm hoping I can get on a consistent blogging schedule even with school being back in session.

Grace and peace, friends
